The much-anticipated Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been intense.
Season 1 presents a large cast of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive fan obsession.
The community's expectations for the new season vary widely, but certain threads recur frequently: Will Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the binding agreement affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the creator commented recently. "However I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply fans have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season moves, and how many of what they're anticipating unfolds this season.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a couple people make a prediction grid about the new season," she says. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
