Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, demons, and dark forces increasing in strength within the city.
Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team includes Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might appear out of place, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the group understands precisely where to go next after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.
Casimir then cleared his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd close behind.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each character has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the powerful family could enable the party access locations they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to travel to Timmony in quest for Casimir.
Future Episodes
From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Questers and Strategists parties.
Viewers can anticipate discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
